Dr. Janet Bonner

Ally in Community Consultant

Dr. Janet Bonner (she/her) is a Washington D.C. native who now calls Houston, Texas home. Her journey began in engineering at the Johnson Space Center, but the discovery of her true passion and calling redirected her path towards making a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of children and families.

With over 17 years of dedicated service with the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), a nationwide network of public charter schools, Dr. Bonner has been a pillar of nurturing support and leadership. She has guided numerous students and families to educational success and currently serves as the Statewide Manager of Career and Partnerships, extending her influence by providing comprehensive support for alumni in both personal and professional realms.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Bonner embarked on a journey of continuous learning and growth. While raising her four children, she pursued and earned a Masters in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Education and Professional Leadership. When not immersed in her books or culinary creations, Dr. Bonner dedicates time to volunteering and cherishing moments with her grandchildren. As a grandmother to a bisexual youth and the biggest cheerleader for her daughter, Nico, Dr. Bonner brings a personal understanding to her role as a proud ally.

Her community involvement extends beyond Flaming for Jesus, as she is a founding member of the Restorative Justice Collaborative of Houston, working to end the school-to-prison pipeline. Additionally, she serves as the vice-president of her neighborhood civic association and is a founding board member of FUSION Houston, a nonprofit committed to serving and empowering youth and their families while fostering social change in Northeast Houston. Dr. Bonner's passion for advocacy and community betterment makes her an invaluable resource to our mission.Â
