Jessica Garza
Volunteer Coordinator
Jessica Garza (She/Her), is a proud lesbian and resident of San Antonio, along with her wife, Nico. Born in Baytown, Texas, Jess brings a wealth of passion and creative experience to Flaming for Jesus . Her journey of service began at a tender age when she eagerly dedicated her time to assisting her mother, a daycare teacher. At the age of 13, Jess's innate ability to connect with and nurture youth led her to manage and care for children, ultimately earning her the position of leading the after-school program at 16, where she lovingly taught children aged 1 to 13.
Currently employed at HEB, Jess finds fulfillment in her work, aspiring not only to be a leader but also a mentor. Her talent for training and unwavering support align seamlessly with her goal of fostering positive and affirming environments. Excited about the collaborative potential between Flaming for Jesus and HEB, Jess envisions a partnership that actively contributes to the betterment of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Jess also finds joy in transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. As a former stagehand for Local 54, she built stages for plays and ballet performances, showcasing her willingness to get her hands dirty for a good cause. This artistic inclination and hands-on mentality make her the perfect fit for the role of Volunteer Coordinator.
Jess's hobbies are a testament to her artistic spirit, ranging from wood burning, drawing, painting, to craftsmanship. Her lifelong passion for all things creative skyrocketed after receiving her first tattoo machine in 2009. She completed her apprenticeship in 2013, and her passion soon blossomed into a career of creating hundreds of tattoos and custom pieces for clients. Jess’ artistic flair and commitment to service add a unique and vibrant touch to the Flaming for Jesus family.
